In the 56th minute, Manchester United fans everywhere felt hope dripping from their fingers, and when the final whistle sounded, the last droplet felt from the tips of their finger. Famous Man United forward Nani was the man responsible for the fans’ agony. However, most fans would argue that the incident that left the Red Devils with only 10 men on the field was a yellow card at the very least. Manchester United was up 1-0 when this event occurred.

Eventually Manchester United fell in the match 2-1 to Real Madrid with goals by Christano Ronaldo and Luka Modric for Madrid and  the lone goal for United was an own goal poked across the line by Sergio Ramos.

Other Champions League results:

Juventus 2-0 Celtic [Agg:5-0] – An easy victory both times for Juventus as they shut down Scottish club Celtic without a problem both times. Goals were scored by Alessandro Matri and Fabio Quagliarella this time around.

PSG 1-1 Valencia [Agg:3-2] – The French club from Paris held on for a draw against the Spanish club Valencia to advance to the final 8 for the first time in 18 years.

Dortmund 3-0 Shakthtar [Agg:5-2] – A dominating victory for Dortmund. They are also a rarity in the Champions league final eight, this being their first trip since 1998.

Results from top clubs this weekend:

Liverpool 3-2 Tottenham – Two of the the Premiership’s top clubs duked it out at Anfield and the home squad stood strong with the victory. Jan Vertonghen, defender for Tottenham, had both goals for their side, but in the waning minutes of the fixture, Liverpool was rewarded with a penalty shot, and Steven Gerrard buried the winning goal for the club. Luis Suarez also tallied one for the Reds, pushing his campaign for Player of the Year honors into high gear.

Juventus 1-0 Catania – This team is in cruise control, as they won their Serie A fixture as well this week. I don’t see anyone catching them, but crazier things have happened.

Bayern Munich 3-2 Fortuna Düsseldorf – The stars shined brightly in this one. Bayern was down in late in the match, but with goals by Franck Ribery and Thomas Müller, the home side completed the game and got all three points. 20 points ahead in the table, Bayern will easily win the Bundesliga.

Barcelona 2-0 Deportivo La Coruña – Lionel Messi probably isn’t from this planet. He scored another goal in a fixture he didn’t even start.

Celta Vigo 1-2 Real Madrid – That other megastar in La Liga…what’s his name? Oh yeah, Christiano Ronaldo. He scored twice to bring a road victory home for Madrid.

That’s all y’all. Stay tuned for another exciting F.C. review coming to a computer screen near you.
