Rashad Evans proved tonight that mixed martial arts is a much different animal to tame than collegiate wrestling.

The former light-division champion Evans defeated four-time All-American and national champion at Penn State Phil Davis by unanimous decision during UFC on FOX Saturday.

The scheduled five round main event went the distance as Judges had it 50-45 for Evans across the board.

The more experienced Evans was the faster, sharper and more complete fighter. He also earned himself a title shot against light heavyweight champion Jon Jones on April 21 in Atlanta.

“Phil Davis definitely brought it, and I won, and now that I won, I get an opportunity to fight Jon and I’m excited about it,” Evans said.

At times it looked as though Evans was going to finish Davis off as he had Davis in a crucifix several times in the fight.

Davis though managed to hang on and take Evans all five rounds before losing via the judge’s decision.
