Will the Little Caesars Arena help lure free agents to the Red Wings and Pistons?

Little Caesars Arena

Crain’s Business Detroit

With the shiny new (and much anticipated) Little Caesars Arena opening this week fans have finally gotten a first hand look at what’s essentially one of the crown jewels of Detroit. And with politics aside, it’s an arena – at least in the Red Wings‘ sake – the team deserves and is long overdue. The Pistons on the other hand could have a case made however the Palace of Auburn Hills – aside from location – was a nice venue in and of itself.

Anyways, with the new LCA in place, questions as to whether or not the new venue will lead to free agents flocking to both franchises have risen. Although both teams have had their troubles landing the big name free agents in recent years, Winging it in Motown made the proclamation that the LCA will certainly help the Red Wings when it comes to the free agent market.

Will it though?

Typically in the past, the Red Wings have landed free agents based on the chances of winning and/or the money they were able to dish out. Currently both avenues seem to be under massive amounts of construction.

As for the Pistons, the NBA seems to be an entirely different animal when it comes to free agency. Money certainly helps but so does location and who you have the opportunity to player along side.

In all fairness though, if an arena does in fact play a role in luring free agents the LCA will certainly do both the Red Wings and Pistons favors. I just can’t see it making that much of an impact.
