Tigers designated hitter Victor Martinez was hospitalized overnight with an elevated heart rate according to the MLB Network via manager Brad Ausmus.

V-Mart’s hospital stay comes after the veteran was lifted in the seventh inning after reaching first base on a throwing error that resulted in Ian Kinsler crossing the plate. Martinez was replaced by Dixon Machado.

Via theScore:

“He’s not feeling well,” Ausmus said after Thursday’s game, according to Chris McCosky of The Detroit News. “He got cold sweats, dizzy, and his heart was racing.

“It got to a point where he felt he couldn’t go.”

It’s unclear what brought on the symptoms and it’s assumed V-Mart will be kept out of the lineup tonight. We’ll keep you posted.

UPDATE: According to Brad Ausmus, Victor Martinez has been diagnosed with an irregular heartbeat and has been placed on the 10-day DL. Those are the extent of the details currently known at this time.
