Jason Beck of MLB.com is reporting that Tigers closer Jose Valverde is day to day with an abdominal strain. This would be why the hard throwing right hander was unavailable for tonight’s game against the White Sox when the Tigers pulled ahead.
Valverde last worked Wednesday against the Rays and did not pitch in the series opener against the Sox on Friday. Tigers Manager Jim Leyland said that Valverde might be available for Sundays series finale in Chicago.
