THIS STORY WILL BE UPDATED AS MORE INFORMATION BECOMES AVAILABLE:

Just a half and hour after Woj reported that the Los Angeles Clippers and the Detroit Pistons were in discussions involving Blake Griffin, the deal reportedly is done. The Detroit Pistons are now the proud owners of Blake Griffin, but the gave up a whole damn shipload of ammunition to make it happen.

The Detroit Pistons have sent Tobias Harris, Avery Bradley, Boban Marjanovic, a First Round Pick, and a Second Round Pick to Los Angeles for Blake Griffin and two other players.

Since the Detroit Pistons should be going into full tank mode, the loss of Bradley and Harris shouldn’t be a big deal, especially considering that they now have Griffin under contract for the next three seasons and an additional year covered by $38.9 million dollar player option. Avery Bradley was set to walk as a free agent at the end of this season and Harris the next. Boban doesn’t matter because he never played.

Before you freak out about giving up the draft picks, make sure you read the next part.

The first round pick will carry top four protections for the next three drafts.

Brice Johnson is a second year pro out of North Carolina. He was the Clippers selection at number 25 overall back in 2015. The 6-foot 10-inch Power Forward, Johnson averages 1.8 points per game in nine contests (just under 38 total minutes) for the 2017-18 season.

Willie Reed is a 27-year old backup Center, averaging 4.9 points per game while grabbing 3.1 rebounds in 39 games this year. This is Reed’s third NBA season after going undrafted out of Saint Louis University.

Blake Griffin, the prize of the trade is averaging 22.6 points per game this season, while grabbing just under eight rebounds and dishing out five and a half assists per contest.

This is a great step forward in a rebuild that had to happen. The package of talent in the Motor City right now isn’t good enough to compete and this is a great step forward to making that happen.
