Tigers trade rumors: JD Martinez, Justin Verlander, Miguel Cabrera and Ian Kinsler

As the Tigers head into the winter months and look to slash payroll quicker than Donald Trump slashing the progress we’ve made as a country the past eight years we’ve got some news on some of their bigger stars who could be on the move this offseason.

According to Jon Heyman, among the Tigers’ stars in Justin Verlander, Miguel Cabrera and JD Martinez, Ian Kinsler is also starting to get interest. This certainly makes sense when you factor in Kinsler’s multiple years of control left on his deal at a reasonable number. He’ll be 35 years old this upcoming season making $11 million and holds a $10 million club option in 2018 with a $5 million dollar buyout. Bottom line, the club holds all the cards with a guy whose been very productive, especially when it comes to his WAR.

Additionally, the Tigers are also getting some interest in Mike Pelfrey and Anibal Sanchez.

Yesterday you also may have heard rumors surrounding the Astros pursuing Miguel Cabrera. Heyman has said his sources have called this rumor more “hype” than anything. Plus when you’re dealing with a guy like Cabrera it’s very important to remember the years and money left on his deal, not to mention the 10-5 rights he currently owns meaning he can nix any deal presented to him.

Lastly however, the Tigers star most likely to be traded is JD Martinez who currently has one-year left on his deal with Detroit. We’ve speculated that a landing spot for the right-handed slugger could be Toronto who’s on the verge of losing both Jose Bautista and Edwin Encarnacion in their batting order.
