Tigers pitcher Travis Wood had an unfortunate accident with a crossbow this offseason that almost costed him a finger.

According to the Detroit News, Wood suffered the injury on his non-throwing index finger which is no doubt good for the career. Additionally though, Wood asked the doctor if amputation would get him back quicker. Apparently that wasn’t a joke and luckily for Wood’s digit the doctor said cutting the finger off wouldn’t speed up the recovery time.

Crossbows and Guitar Hero clearly are no friends of Tigers pitchers.

Anyways, Wood (who was signed this winter) will look to compete for a spot in the rotation this season for the Tigers. Career wise he’s 47-59 with a 4.26 ERA while coming off a 4-7 season in 2018 with the Padres to go with a 6.80 ERA.
