The Tigers will be making some slight changes to their logo kit as reflected on their caps and jerseys for the 2018 season. According to the team the Olde English “D” on the caps and home jersey’s will now be the same with the jersey’s taking on the cap “D” going forward.

Most Tigers fans have been aware of the difference but if this is news to you, here’s the comparison below:

So why the change?

Chris Creamer of SportsLogos.net writes that the team and Major League Baseball did some ‘research’ and found that the cap “D” was the preferred Old English “D” amongst the fans and that it ‘best represents’ the city of Detroit.

But that’s not the only change the team is making for 2018.

In addition to the jerseys, the team will also enlarge the logo on the caps to fall more in line with the logo sizing used by the rest of the MLB.

Ultimately fans will probably be pleased with these subtle changes and I myself do prefer the cap “D” as opposed to the jersey “D”. However something I always liked about the Tigers’ uniform kits was that subdued quirkiness. The mismatching “D’s” on the jersey’s and the caps and the different use of colors for the home and away sets was and still is pretty unique.

The jersey switch will be easy to get use too however that hat logo adjustment is something I can’t get on board with. At least not yet.
