Ben Sheets may not be the only pitcher on the A’s that the Tigers may be interested in. According to the Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle the Tigers have been scouting A’s reliever Michael Wuertz. Slusser also mentions that the Tigers may be in on Craig Breslow as well however Breslow may be more difficult to pry away.
It’s no secret that the Tigers may look to add another arm to the bullpen after losing Joel Zumaya for the rest of the season and the uncertainty of Ryan Perry. Wuertz is a pitcher that Slusser believes the A’s could sell low on.
Wuertz is 2-1 with a 5.30 ERA and 1.607 WHIP. Although his ERA isn’t that impressive he features a slider that had the most whiffs per swing in 2009.
