According to Steve Kornacki of Mlive.com, Tigers GM Dave Dombrowski has given us some insight on some nagging roster questions regarding the 2011 Detroit Tigers.
To no surprise the Tigers will not pick up the $15 million dollar option on Magglio Ordonez. Dombrowski did say though that the team will pursue him during the off-season in hopes of bringing back the veteran slugger. Ordonez has also said that he would like to return to the team next season.
Infielder Brandon Inge has been offered a multi year contract in which the details of the contract haven’t been released and it seems as though the team will pick up Peralta’s $7.25 million dollar team option. Dombrowski seems like he is comfortable with these two patrolling the left side of the infield.
As we mentioned earlier, LHP Phil Coke will be moved into the rotation and two veterans could be pursued during the off-season to help bolster the bullpen.
OF Johnny Damon, catcher Gerald Laird and starter Jeremy Bonderman will not be back with the team next year. Bonderman however could be invited to spring training if he doesn’t sign with another team during the off-season.
Alex Avila will be given a shot to become the opportunity to become the teams everyday catcher next year with the team possibly going out to sign a right handed hitting catcher to compliment him.
Also according to Kornacki, GM Dave Dombrowski and manager Jim Leyland both agree that obtaining an RBI threat in the middle of the lineup may be a priority this off-season.
Detroit has $70.1 million coming off the books next season.
