The Tigers’ remarkable run in September continue Wednesday when they defeated the Chicago White Sox 6-5 in 10 innings. This marked the 12th straight victory for the Tigers, something that hasn’t been done by the organization since the 1934 season.

The Tigers also didn’t spare the dramatics Wednesday.

Down 5-2 in the top of the 9th, Ryan Raburn came in as a pinch hitter for Don Kelly and hit a solo home-run to make it 5-3 Chicago. After a Magglio Ordonez walk, Alex Avila came in to pinch hit sending a towering 2 run-home run to tie the game at 5.

In the top of the 10th Tigers 2B Will Rhymes scored after a Carlos Guillen RBI single then like we’ve seen 43 times already this year, Jose Valverde shut things down in the bottom of the 10th to record his 44th save of the season.

What’s also truly remarkable are  the contributions the Tigers are getting from just about everyone on their roster. For instance today Jim Leyland sat a number of his starters yet the Tigers were still able to squeeze out a victory. Furthermore it was Ryan Raburn who helped get the Tigers come back in the 9th then it was Carlos Guillen who hit the winning RBI in the 10th.

It’s getting to the point where words simply cannot describe this team.

Tigers starter Brad Penny who is fighting for a spot in the playoff rotation ended up going 6 innings allowing 5 runs (1 earned) while walking 3 and striking out 3. Phil Coke ended up getting the win.

The Tigers reduced their magic number to three games after the win Wednesday which could be at two if the Indians lose to the Texas Rangers Wednesday night.
