Tigers second baseman Ian Kinsler looks like he could be the next veteran on their way out of Detroit.

While speaking with reporters at the general manager meetings, Al Avila stated that he’s received “several” calls inquiring on the availability of Kinsler who the Tigers dangled on the trade market last season before pulling him back during the waiver period.

Via the Detroit Free Press:

Though the off-season is just beginning, Avila has already received “several” calls on Kinsler, who likely will be the next Tiger leaving town, either this off-season or before next July’s non-waiver trade deadline.

“We’ll take it slow and not rush into anything and see what develops,” Avila said.

Avila said he didn’t want to “rush into anything” when it came to trading Kinsler which is probably the right approach. The 35-year-old Kinsler has one-year and $11 million dollars left on his contract coming off a 2017 season in which he hit .236 with 22 home runs, 52 RBIs and 14 stolen bases. Despite the less than stellar numbers, Kinsler was a Gold Glove finalist this season and still will offer plenty defensively and at the plate at a reasonable price.

Kinsler does have a limited no-trade clause which shouldn’t factor in much with any potential deal given the Tigers’ situation as a rebuilding team. Likewise, its seems likely that if the Tigers can’t find a suitor this Winter it’s probably they find one just before the trade deadline in 2018.
