According to TrueHockey.com, forward Ryan Johnson has accepted a tryout deal with the Detroit Red Wings. The veteran has played in over 700 career games including 34 last season with the Wings’ Central division foe the Chicago Blackhawks.

Johnson is seen as a player that can come in and help with the penalty kill in part due to his shot blocking capabilities.

In those 34 games last season with Chicago, Johnson accumulated 1 goal, 5 assists and 6 points.

He is also the brother of former Red Wing Greg Johnson.
