UPDATE 12:45 pm: Lions head coach Jim Schwartz addressed the media regarding the car accident and subsequent injury to WR Nate Burleson. According to Schwartz Burleson will undergo surgery tomorrow and not today as previously reported. Burleson apparently broke both bones in his forearm and there has been no decision to put him on the IR at this present time.

UDPATE 10:28 am: According to Dave Birkett the falling object in Burleson’s car that caused the accident was Pizza.

It looks as though the Lions will be without a key piece on offense for the foreseeable future.

According to the Michigan State Police, Lions WR Nate Burleson was involved a car accident around 2:25 am on I-696 near Drake and Farmington Hills after returning home from watching MNF Tuesday. The report (via CBS Detroit) also mentions that alcohol wasn’t a factor and occurred when Burleson was “trying to catch an object that was falling off his seat.”

MSP Lt. Brian Shaw said that Burleson hit the median wall when he reached down and tried to pick it up.

No other injuries were reported and no tickets were issued in the single car accident.

Burleson is scheduled to undergo surgery on his arm which was broken in two places.

Ryan Broyles, who finally saw game action last Sunday after suffering a knee injury last season will take over as the primary slot guy according to the Detroit Free Press’ Dave Birkett. Currently there’s not time table for Burleson’s return.
