Minnesota Vikings v Detroit Lions

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Lions have released veteran Running Back Reggie Bush. This comes after two years of a four year contract he signed in 2013.

Bush was scheduled to make a base salary of $3.5 million dollars and his 2015 cap hit was scheduled to be $5.3 million once you factor in other compensation. His release will save the Lions just over $1.7 million in cap space, but will carry $3.5 million in dead money this year and just under $1.8 million in dead money next season.

It is painfully clear to anyone who watched his play last season that his release today by the Lions isn’t purely a financial decision. His inability to stay healthy and very limited production made him entirely expendable.
