Lions head coach Matt Patricia addressed a big piece of his coaching staff Wednesday hiring Boston College defensive line coach Paul Pasqualoni as his new defensive coordinator.

In addition to his time with BC, Pasqualoni also has plenty of experience at the NFL level and ironically gave Patricia his first job at Syracuse back in 2001.

Last week, Patricia spoke on his former boss who will now serve under the former Pats DC in his first NFL head coaching gig (via the Detroit Free Press):

“It was obviously a great opportunity for me to go home,” Patricia said last week of working with Pasqualoni. “Syracuse was home for me, and when you grew up in that area there really is no professional sports, so at the time it was Syracuse football, Syracuse basketball, that’s kind of what it is out there. And to have that opportunity to go back and then just to see kind of Coach Pasqualoni’s, the way that he handled the team, the way that he coached the team and the way that just everything was in order, very much sort of how you would want a football team run.”

In addition to Pasqualoni, Patricia also hired Jeff Davidson as the team’s new offensive line coach as Brian Stewart will coach defensive backs. Meanwhile Chris White will coach the tight ends and David Corrao has been hired on to be the director of football research.

Furthermore, Patricia also reassigned some preexisting Lions coaches with Al Golden moving from tight ends to linebackers and George Godsey getting a promotion from special projects to quarterbacks coach.

And as what was reported last week, Jim Bob Cooter will stay on as the Lions’ offensive coordinators.
