Despite leaving yesterday’s after just two innings and 4.63 ERA and 1.46 WHIP on the season, the Tigers got some good news today regarding Justin Verlander‘s groin.

An MRI revealed no structural damage to JV’s groin area as the Tigers’ ace has been listed as day-to-day. In the meantime however, his next start (which is scheduled for this weekend in Boston) is TBD.

“I felt like we had to protect him a little bit,” Ausmus told reporters after the game. “He didn’t want to come out. He said he felt like he could keep pitching. But I didn’t want him to be protecting his groin and to have something else be affected like his shoulder or something like that. That was my call.”

Before leaving yesterday’s game, Verlander gave up two earned runs on six hits with three walks.
