According to Jason Stark and Buster Olney of ESPN.com the Tigers have inquired on Ted Lilly but since have had discussions with the Cubs in over a week.
MLBTradeRumors.com writes that the 34-year-old Lilly has a 4.07 ERA with 6.5 K/9 and 2.2 BB/9 this season and projects as a Type A free agent
come seasons end. What this means is that if the Tigers offer him arbitration at the end of the season and he doesn’t accept they could receive draft picks from the team that does sign him.
Moving on to Haren, again MLBTraderumors.com’s Tim Dierkes mentions that the Tigers were the only team to send scouts to watch Haren pitch this past Friday. Dierkes also mentions that since the Tigers will have over $50MM to play with in 2011 they will have plenty of money for Haren and have plenty of young starters that would appeal to the D-Backs.
In addition to the Tigers, Dierkes also mentions the Cardinals, Yankees, Rockies, Phillies, Nationals and Angels as potential suitors for Haren.
