They may be a problem with the presumed Lions plans to hire Patriots defensive coordinator Matt Patricia as their new head coach.

According to MMQB’s Peter King, Patricia seems to be favoring the head coaching vacancy with the Giants rather than paling up with his former Patriots counterpart Bob Quinn in Detroit. If true this would then put Mike Vrabel in the front seat when it comes to Jim Caldwell’s former job in the Motor City.

“In Detroit, I hear Pats defensive coordinator Matt Patricia is the choice over Houston’s defensive boss, Mike Vrabel—but Patricia favors the Giants. If the Giants give the nod to Patricia, Detroit could be Vrabel’s job.”

The Giants have also head their sights set on Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels and have been rumored to be interested in former Lions head coach Jim Schwartz.

When it comes to openings around League, the Lions and Giants figure to be at the top of the most attractive landing spots for prospective head coaches for different reasons. For the Giants, many have lauded their ownership and the front office’s willingness to fill holes without much pushback. Meanwhile they’ve also got a 37-year-old QB in Eli Manning and contentious media market to deal with.

For Detroit, the attractions lies with Matthew Stafford being a bonafide top tier QB in the NFL with pieces around him. However at 30-years-old the window to win now is open as far as it’s going to go. Then there’s that whole thing about the Lions being the Lions. Shit.
