In order to add some depth to an already thin secondary the Lions acquired CB Kevin Barnes from the Washington Redskins for undisclosed compensation.

John Keim of CBSSports.com cites the Washington Examiner that Barnes initially indicated that he’d been released however when he talked with Detroit GM Martin Mayhew and Redskins GM Bruce Allen he was informed that he’d actually been dealt.

Barnes, a third round pick for Washington back in 2009 struggled last season with the Redskins at nickelback. He accumulated 26 combined tackles, four pass breakups, and two interceptions. He also gained notoriety for delivering a concussion to current Lions RB Jahvid Best in college when Barnes was with Maryland and Best was with Cal.
