The Lions made their Reggie Bush replacement official Wednesday inking second round draft pick Ameer Abdullah to his rookie contract.

For the former Nebraska running back, expectations seem high as Abdullah will more than likely be inserted right into the backfield rotation with Joique Bell. Undoubtedly the Lions will be looking for more production from this spot not to mention an option that remains healthy all season something Reggie Bush was never really able to do.

During is time with the Cornhuskers, Abdullah finished with 813 carries for 4,588 yards (5.6 average) and 39 TDs. He also caught 73 passes for 690 yards and seven touchdowns. Aside though from the positives Abdullah brings to the table, he has had a problem with his small hands and holding onto the football. Obviously this is something the Lions will have to remedy in order to help turn around not only Abdullah’s problem of holding on to the football but also turning around Martin Mayhew’s run of second round flops in the draft.
