Yesterday, Justin Rogers of MLive.com reported that Lions GM Martin Mayhew and newly hired head coach Jim Caldwell were headed down to Clemson to watch wide receiving prospect Sammy Watkins’ pro day.

Coming away from the pro day though apparently has left both Mayhew and Caldwell very impressed with Watkins and according to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network the Lions are showing a ton of interested in drafting him at No. 10 come May.

The problem though with Watkins and the Lions, especially after his (Watkins’) pro day workout is there’s an increasing chance that he’s not available when the Lions’ number is called. Several scouts and NFL front office personal have mentioned that Watkins’ work out was one of the best they’ve ever seen and with teams like Oakland, Minnesota and Buffalo ahead of the Lions there’s the growing possibility that Detroit will need to trade up in order to land the talented Clemson wide out.

If trading up is something the Lions would be looking to do, Oakland may be the spot to jump to at No. 5 considering the Raiders are reportedly looking to acquire more picks in the draft.
