The Detroit Lions announced Monday morning that the team wouldn’t be using the franchise tag on defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh prior to the 4PM ET deadline according to Tim Twentyman of DetroitLions.com.

With the restructure of his rookie deal, Suh was on track to make $26.9M with the tag. However the Lions going the non-franchise route with Suh doesn’t necessarily mean he won’t be in a Detroit uniform next season. The team still has until Tuesday March 10th to get the All-Pro defensive tackle signed to a long-term deal. Given the dialogue by the team the past few months I tend to think they’re closer to a contract extension with Suh than letting him walk. Unfortunately.
