It’s been two games and many people are hopping on the back of Denard Robinson already. Didn’t we do that last year with Tate Forcier? Shortly after a 4-0 start didn’t we all pack our bags and get on the bandwagon? Then once we got comfy in the wagon, Tater Tot and the Wolverines fell to the hands of every team but one in the Big Ten. Well that’s what the record shows and with that record, I take it that’s why Denard Robinson is starting now.
Sure, Shoelace is an explosive player and you can’t doubt him in any way because if your too soft on the coverage he’ll throw on you and if you don’t bring the heat he’ll run all over you. His stats don’t lie especially after that impressive game against Notre Dame. The young man had over 500 yards on offense by himself. That’s something Tater Tot couldn’t say with his games last year.
But here’s what all of this is about. Yes, please cheer for our Michigan Wolverines but don’t get too excited. After Bowling Green and UMass it’s not going to be easy. It’s the same as last year. We have our conference to play and we’re still not a good team. Yes, we have a dynamic player and he’s practically beat the first two teams of the season by himself but to beat the rest of the Big Ten we need to prevent the little things.
What are those little things? Keep forcing turnovers. We’ve yet to turn the ball over but defensively we’ve forced 5 which is very impressive. Aside from the turnovers we need to be more efficient on 3rd down. Punting the ball 10 times against Notre Dame is not a good thing. We could have blown them out of the water but instead we couldn’t convert and that caused this game to be a nail biter. But nothing gets as worse as the penalties. How many times can we get a first down and then watch it get called back due to clipping or holding? Let’s just say 8 times (penalties) for 99 yards. In other words we’ve still got a lot to improve but we’re looking good so what this all comes down to is yes, Hail to the Victors but don’t hop on anything until we beat teams in conference play.
