Lions

After going unclaimed on waivers, former Michigan quarterback Jake Rudock signed onto the Lions practice squad a day after the team decided to go with Dan Orlovsky as Matthew Stafford‘s backup.

Here’s Jim Caldwell going on about Rudock’s development (via Freep.com), but you know he’s no Dan Orlovsky:

“He’s grasping the offense better and better and better,” Caldwell said Thursday. “He’s a smart guy anyway. He works at it. He made some nice throws this evening and certainly did a nice job just in terms of operating the offense. We didn’t do a whole lot of no huddle out there. We huddled pretty much every time, but he still did a nice job getting us out of some bad plays and things of that nature. He’s developing. He obviously played well.”

As I stated yesterday, I’m not sure what the appeal of Orlovsky is. The guy sucked throughout most of the preseason which has been par for the course throughout the entirety of his NFL career. Yet he’s entering his 12th NFL season.

Then again, I’ve wasted far too much time discussing Lions’ back up QBs.
