Calvin Johnson Lions

The morning after the NFL season effectively comes to an end, 97.1 the Ticket’s Terry Foster has penned another blog for the radio station’s web site, this time stating that according to his sources, Detroit Lions Wide Receiver Calvin Johnson will announce his retirement sometime this week.

Calvin Johnson is close to announcing that he will retire from the Detroit Lions, according to sources close to his family and friends. The announcement could come as soon as this week. Johnson celebrated in Las Vegas recently where he told friends he’d made up his mind to officially retire.

If and when this announcement occurs it will likely be saving new Detroit Lions General Manager Bob Quinn a huge publicity nightmare of having to cut everyone’s favorite player in a salary dump maneuver.

If Calvin Johnson follows through, the Detroit Lions will be off the hook for a significant portion of his total salary and will not have to pay his $15.9 million dollar salary and a $3.2 million dollar portion of his signing bonus.

If Calvin Johnson can afford to retire right now from the NFL, then good for him. He was smart, saved his money and can afford to cease getting in the front end car crash called football every week.
