ESPN: “Some sentiment” the Tigers will move Jose Iglesias at the deadline

As the Tigers move into full sell mode before next week’s trade deadline, ESPN’s Buster Olney has added another name to the list of players who could find themselves packing up their Comerica Park locker room stall.

Jose Iglesias, you may want to start getting some boxes together.

This would really be the first time Iglesias’ name has really come up in trade rumors which is a little surprising. Surprising the Tigers may end up dealing the shortstop in the first place.

Despite his struggles at the plate, .257/.287/.355 on the season, Iglesias is still good in the field and has some of the quickest hands in all of baseball. Plus the Tigers don’t really have an heir apparent coming up through the minors.

However a potentially rebuilding team like Detroit could try to make the most of Iglesias’ value this trade deadline. The 27-year-old is currently making $4.1 million this season before hitting final year of arbitration in 2018. He’ll be an unrestricted free agent during the 2019 season so perhaps the Tigers will try to market their shortstop as more than just a rental player who’ll be in line for a slight pay raise this offseason.
