“You’ve got to enjoy this. I don’t know how much I’ve got left — this year and next year. But we’ve got to remember this is a game and enjoy it.”
Tigers outfielder and designated hitter Johnny Damon is a realist and knows that he is in the twilight of his career. It is clear that he doesn’t know if he will be back with the Tigers next season or in the majors at all (although I think he will be with someone if not the Tigers).
Johnny Damon certainly has made a very positive impact on the Tigers this season, taking on a leadership role that was very much needed with the influx of rookies playing on the team this year.
According to Steve Kornacki of Mlive.com, with all the money coming off the books next season for the Tigers, Damon believes the team will make a big splash and could make a run at Tampa Bay outfielder Carl Crawford…
“Mr. Ilitch is going to make a splash on free agents,” Damon said. “They might make a run at Carl Crawford.”
I was never a huge Damon fan, in fact I did not like him at all when he played for the Yankees. However after seeing him take on that leadership role and take on a tough spot in the batting lineup (Polanco’s number two spot) he grew on me. Ultimately I hope the Tigers do bring him back next season but only at the right price.
