Former NFL wide receiver continues to backtrack on comments he made about Lions receiver Calvin Johnson earlier in the year. To refresh everyone’s memory before the beginning of the season Carter mentioned that Johnson was good in video games but not in real football and most recently believed that he wasn’t in the top five in terms of wide receivers in the NFL.

However after Johnson was able to catch two touchdown passes in four straight games (tying Carter’s own record back in 1995) Carter was left eating his words.

In an appearance on ESPN Radio Tuesday morning, Carter acknowledged that Johnson is doing things that no other receiver (besides himself back in 1995) is doing.

“Right now, Calvin Johnson — there’s a king in every crowd, and he’s the king of the National Football League as far as wide receivers,” Carter said.

Carter also added that the rest of the NFL (including himself and Cowboys defensive coordinator Rob Ryan) should learn not to question Johnson. As you may not of heard Ryan (brother of Jets head coach Rex Ryan) said that Calvin Johnson would be the third best receiver on the Cowboys.

ESPN analyst Merill Hoge also referred to Johnson as the NFL’s most valuable player.
