Minnesota Vikings v Detroit Lions

Joique Bell re-signed with the Detroit Lions Wednesday for a reported three-year deal worth an estimated $9 million dollars. Not bad for a guy who rushed for 650 yards last season and proved to be a very formidable No. 2 behind Reggie Bush. However for the cap strapped Lions where at this point every penny so-to-speak counts, lets see how this breaks down via some base salary date via the NFLPA and ESPN.

  • Bell will make a base salary of $1.3 million in 2014 and $2.5 million in both 2015 and 2016.
  • Bell’s entire 2014 base salary is guaranteed plus the $3 million dollar signing bonus.
  • None of his salary for the 2015 and 2016 seasons is guaranteed.
  • He’ll give the Lions a cap hit of $2.3 million in 2014 and $3.5 million in 2015 and 2016.

This still isn’t the entirety of the contract details but just the base specs. Either way it’s still not a bad deal at all for Detroit, especially considering even at 27 Bell doesn’t have that many miles on the treads considering he’s been mostly a practice squad player throughout his career.
