Andy Strickland of 590 The Fan in St. Louis reported Wednesday night that the Wings have signed free agent defenseman Carlo Colaiacovo to two-year contract worth $5 million dollars.

However after Strickland released the tweet, Helene St. James of the Detroit Free Press was reporting that a deal hasn’t been made and that the two sides are still talking.
General manager Ken Holland told the Free Press Wednesday evening he is talking to unrestricted free agent defenseman Carlo Colaiacovo, a former first-round pick who had 19 points in 64 games last season with St. Louis.
Red Wings are talking to UFA D Carlo Colaiacovo, but he is not signed. They've wanted to add veteran D for depth.

Colaiacovo has been linked to the Wings for the past several weeks as Ken Holland looks to add depth to the blue line after the departure of Nicklas Lidstrom and Brad Stuart. Now despite the conflicting reports it seems pretty certain that something will get done and announced either tonight or tomorrow.
