Tigers looking into Elvis Andrus for 2013?

Despite what happens for the Tigers the rest of the season, general manager Dave Dombrowski will probably decline the club option on shortstop Jhonny Peralta and look to upgrade the position.

The importance of the position too could be an area that Dombrowski makes a huge splash with considering his track record in previous offseasons with the team. The question though is who could he go after?

Lynn Henning of the Detroit News highlights one particular player in Texas shortstop Elvis Andrus as a guy that the Tigers not only could use, but a guy they need.

The heir apparent to Andrus, Henning speaks of is Juickson Profar who is considered one of the top prospects in baseball, so it’s very conceivable that the Rangers could look to put Andrus on the market. However unlike the Rangers, the Tigers have almost zero bait in the system that could be enticing to Texas, but Henning does mention a few.

All things considered though, you would have to think that the Tigers would have to include one of the higher end prospects in this deal like a Castellanos, Suarez or Castro. Not to mention the Rangers don’t have to rush any of this and can certainly wait for a deal they like.
