The Lions cut their roster down from 75 to 53 players Friday night before the 9PM ET deadline.

Here’s a list of the players given their walking papers:

  • G Rodney Austin
  • G Pat Boyle
  • DE Everette Brown
  • DE Ugo Chinasa
  • P Ryan Donahue
  • WR Patrick Edwards
  • DT Andre Fluellen
  • G Dan Gerberry
  • TE Alex Gottlieb
  • WR Nate Hughes
  • S Reshard Langford
  • WR Lance Long
  • DE Edmon McClam
  • LB Carmen Messina
  • WR Wallace Miles
  • CB Justin Miller
  • DT Tracy Robertson
  • CB Alphonso Smith
  • WR Maurice Stovall
  • CB Ross Weaver
  • TE Austin Wells

So with the latest cuts, it becomes apparent that QB Kellen Moore has made the team as a third string quarterback.

Some of the bigger names on the list though include CB Alphonso Smith who really fell out of favor last season and DT Andre Fluellen who just couldn’t crack Detroit’s deep defensive line. The Alphonso Smith cut may come as a surprise due to the lack of depth in the defensive secondary however the Denver Broncos released CB Drayten Florence which is someone who the Lions may pursue in the coming days.

It also may be something to note that the Lions will go with Ben Graham as their punter after cutting Ryan Donahue. Donahue as you may remember beat out longtime Lions punter Nick Harris last season but was sidelined early in the season due to injury.
