Given the now weak free agent market for defensemen, it looks as though the Wings are still weighing their trade options for blue line help.
Gregg Krupa of the Detroit News confirms the Red Wings have inquired about Keith Yandle of the Phoenix Coyotes. Now although Yandle will cost the Wings quite a bit, considering the talent level he brings to the table and the fact that Coyotes want to deal him to an Eastern Conference team the return investment could be worth it. Furthermore the 25-year-old defenseman has 4 years remaining on his current deal.
Whether or not Yandle gets dealt is going to have a lot to do with the current ownership situation in Phoenix and what will become of the new CBA. There’s also the chance that the Wings will continue to target Calgary defenseman Jay Bouwmeester.
