Wasted Chances: Tigers fall to Rangers 2-1 in bottom of the 9th

on

A shaky bullpen, runners left on base and a hapless offense doomed the Tigers in their 2-1 loss to the Texas Rangers Saturday night.

After getting the bases loaded with one out in the top of the ninth the Tigers once again failed to get the go-ahead run across home plate as both Boesch and Peralta simply couldn’t get the job done.

In the following half inning Tigers reliever Brayan Villarreal threw four pitch walks to Nelson Cruz and Michael Young. Manager Jim Leyland then went to his bullpen to summon Phil Coke who got two outs before Mike Olt hit a game winning single scoring Cruz.

Tigers center fielder Austin Jackson remained hot on the season scoring the Tigers’ only run of the night which came via home run in the top of the first off of Derek Holland.

Tiger starter Justin Verlander went seven innings allowing 1 run on 7 hits while striking out 9.

Mike Adams for Texas earned his second win of the season.
