Despite coming back from a three run deficit and taking the lead twice in extra innings the Tigers’ bullpen couldn’t hold on to the lead losing to the Baltimore Orioles 8-6 in 13 innings from Camden Yards.
In his first game with the Orioles Taylor Teagarden sent the Tigers home for the night with a two-run homer in the home half of the 13th ending the Tigers’ winning streak at six games.
Teagarden’s home run off of reliever Joaquin Benoit (1-2) came after J.J. Hardy’s solo drive which ended 0-for-28 skid.
In the top of the 11th, Prince Fielder and Delmon Young hit consecutive singles off of Miguel Socolovich, who was working a second inning in his major league debut. Catcher Alex Avila then singled in Young with a blooper up the middle to give the Tigers a 5-4 lead.
Jose Valverde couldn’t preserve the save as Adam Jones hit a two out RBI single.
After flashing the glove in the series opener Friday, Quintin Berry did it with his bat Saturday with a two-out RBI single to give the Tigers a 6-5 lead.
Tigers starter Max Scherzer struggled early after a series of quality starts. The hard throwing righty gave up four runs and nine hits in five innings to get the no decision. Meanwhile Orioles starter Wei-Yin Chen allowed two hits and two walks in six innings and left with a three-run lead.
The Tigers will now go for the series win in the rubber match Sunday afternoon with Justin Verlander taking the hill.

Quintin Berry continues to make things happen for the Tigers when he’s in the game. Yesterday it was an amazing leaping catch robbing Wilson Betemit of a home run. Today it was production at the plate giving the Tigers a 6-5 lead in extra innings.
The Majors Detroit Player of the Game: Adam Jones (Orioles)
Adam Jones continued his productive day offensively with an RBI single to left in the 11th keeping Baltimore alive. He finished the day 3/6 with an RBI.
