Wings sign backup goaltender Jonas Gustavsson to a 2-year, $3 million dollar deal


According to, the Wings made their first free agent signing of the offseason by tabbing goaltender Jonas Gustavsson to a two year deal worth $3 million dollars ($1.5 million annually).

Last season, the “Monster” as he is commonly known as appeared in 42 games for the Leafs going 17-17 with a 4 OT loses and 4 shootout loses. He also compiled a .902 save percentage and a .292 goals against average.

Gustavsson is expected to compete with Joey MacDonald for the back up role behind Jimmy Howard.
