A couple of weeks back it was reported that impending free agent defenseman Ryan Suter would meet with the Nashville front office in hopes of getting a contract extension.
That meeting came and went and according to the Josh Cooper of the Tennessean, Nashville GM David Poile is losing confidence as to whether the two sides can come together on a new deal before NHL free agency begins on July 1st.
Now of course this doesn’t mean that Suter will leave the Predators but with each passing day that he isn’t re-signed bodes well for clubs ready to pounce on him once free agency begins. This may be even better news for the Red Wings who are considered to be the leading candidates to acquire Suter if he hits free agency or a potential trading partner for his negotiating rights prior to July 1st.
