A beaten and tired Tigers (63-52) team coming off a 19 inning loss to the Blue Jays Sunday venture in to Pittsburgh to begin a two-game home and home with the Pirates (62-55). Justin Verlander gets the start for Detroit looking to make his way above the .500 mark this season while the Pirates counter with lefty Jeff Locke.
First pitch is scheduled for 7:05PM ET from the PNC Park. You can watch the game LIVE on FSD and listen live on 97.1FM The Ticket.
Justin Verlander, RHP – 10-10, 4.57 ERA
It seems like very quietly over the past month Justin Verlander has been getting that ERA down. Back on July 13 JV was sporting a 4.88 ERA and since then has almost brought it down to 4.57. Furthermore Verlander has another chance tonight to further bring that ERA down as he’s 25-2 against the National League with 14-straight wins stretching back to 2010. However JV has yet to beat the NL five times in a season.
Pirates career vs. Verlander:
Jeff Locke, LHP – 3-3, 3.78 ERA
In his last start on August 6th against the Marlins, Locke gave up three runs to the first ten batters but settled in nicely retiring the next 16 of 17 he faced. In addition he also struck out a season high of seven en route to a 7-3 win.
Tigers career vs. Locke:
