The hope that Ndamukong Suh will be a Lion for an extended period of time just took a major hit Monday afternoon.

According to team president Tom Lewand, the Lions will be ‘tabling’ contract negotiations with Suh until the end of the season.

This all comes after a Chris Mortensen report last week saying the team wasn’t confident they could get a deal done with Suh prior to the start of the season which is certainly the case now. Despite that though Lewand is still confident that a deal will get worked out with Suh keeping him a Lion for the long-run. In addition, Lewand didn’t rule out using the franchise tag on the Pro Bowl DT which would cost the team a cool $27M in cap space.

If you ask me though the writing is one the wall with Suh and that is he doesn’t want to be in Detroit. The opportunity to sign him really came and went with the delay that was caused when he fired his longtime agent. From the looks of it though zero progress has been made regarding the standstill between Suh and the Lions which you’d think at this point if Suh wanted to stay a Lion we’d hear more progress on a deal than what’s been made available.
