If anything the last couple of games for the Tigers is a continued indication that they need bullpen help if they’re going to make a run at the World Series this year.
With that in mind reports today surfaced that the team is interested in Arizona right-handed reliever Brad Ziegler… the only catch is he’s one of the players the D-Backs are said to be holding onto in the midst of their fire sale.
Sources: Tigers have inquired on availability of DBacks reliever Brad Ziegler, but Arizona seems inclined to keep him.

The 34-year old Ziegler has been stellar for Arizona this season compiling a 2.37 ERA in 49 1/3 innings of work. Furthermore his 8.03 strikeouts per nine innings is a career-high while the 67.7 percent ground ball he currently maintains is good for third best in all of baseball. In short the veteran with the side-arm delivery has been very good at keeping the ball down in the zone this season which is further illustrated by ESPN’s chart below.

If the Tigers or any other team are able to pull the trigger on Ziegler he wouldn’t be one-year rental. This season Ziegler is making $4.5M while next season his salary will increase to $5M. There’s also a club option for $5.5M in 2016 with a $1M buyout.
