The Red Wings re-signed two of their own prospects Thursday inking both Mitch Callahan and Andrej Nestrasil to one-year deals.
Callahan (22), who was a 6th round pick of the Wings back in 2009 made his NHL debut with the Red Wings last season in addition to playing the majority of the time with the team’s AHL affiliate in Grand Rapids. You might also remember Callahan for his toothless selfie making it’s rounds on Twitter after he took a puck to the face.
Callahan was also pretty effective on the ice for the Griffins finishing second in goals with 26 while recording 5 points in eight Calder Cup playoff games.
Meanwhile, the 23-year old Nestrasil was taken in the third round of the 2009 draft as well and like Callahan enjoyed success at the AHL level for Grand Rapids. Nestrasil had 16 goals and 36 points in 70 games for the Griffins while also registering 4 goals in 10 playoff appearances.
