Alfredsson will either play for the Red Wings next season or retire

The Wings aren’t going to make any quick decisions on free agent Daniel Alfredsson but the veteran forward has decided his future will go one of two ways, play for Detroit in 2014-15 or retire.

According to Helene St. James of the Detroit Free Press, Alfredsson said he and his family will live in Detroit next season despite what happens. Meanwhile the Red Wings will wait till August to see how Alfredsson’s back is feeling before deciding whether or not they’ll bring him back for an 18th NHL season.

Hampered by a back injury that limited him to just 68 games, Alfredsson was still pretty productive in his first year with Detroit recording 18 goals and 31 assists.
