John Loyer will take over Pistons head coaching duties the rest of the year

With Cheeks gone, the Pistons will reportedly hand the reins over to assistant John Loyer for the rest of the season this according to Yahoo! Sports’ Adrian Wojnarowski who also stated that the Pistons won’t be conduction a coaching search right now.

Loyer is thought to be a good defensive minded coach who was an assistant under former Pistons head coach Lawrence Frank in Detroit as well as with New Jersey. He also served as an assistant under Bob Huggins in Cincinnati.

With the news though of the Pistons not actively looking or interviewing permanent replacements for Cheeks you have to wonder if GM Joe Dumars’ days are numbered as well. If they weren’t you’d think Tom Gores would allow him to make the next coaching hire which doesn’t appear to be the case.
