UPDATE: The Cheeks firing looks to of court a couple of Pistons off guard.

According to Yahoo! Sports’ Adrian Wojnarowski the Pistons have fired head coach Maurice Cheeks after his first 50 games with the team.

According to the report, team owner Tom Gores became increasingly frustrated with the way the young team as well as Cheeks, obviously so much so that he believed a change was needed. Of course you also have to wonder what this means for GM Joe Dumars and whether or not he’ll be allowed to make the next hire for a team that’s been tremendously disappointing this year after a big offseason that saw the additions of Josh Smith and Brandon Jennings.

Currently the Pistons ride a two game winning streak and sit a game behind Charlotte for the 8th and final playoff spot in a horrible Eastern Conference.

No interim coach has been named to replace Cheeks however sources have told Yahoo! Sports that John Loyer is expected to be the front runner.
