ESPN’s Buster Olney provided a video blog for ESPN.com this weekend discussing hot stove issues this offseason in Major League baseball, notably with the Detroit Tigers’ starting rotation.
For the newly crowned AL Cy Young Award winner Max Scherzer, Olney believes that he will almost certainly not be traded this winter citing the Tigers’ win now mentality and the lack of getting anything substantial in return for the right hander. However Olney goes on to say that the Scott Boras client will also more than likely not sign a long-term deal with the team as MLBTR’s Matt Swartz projects that Scherzer will earn $13.6 million in arbitration this winter.
Porcello on the other hand seems to be a different story.
Unlike Scherzer Olney believes that it’s expected Porcello gets dealt this offseason as the team attempts to move lefty Drew Smyly into the rotation.
