The hot rumor over the weekend was the Detroit Pistons offering up G Brandon Knight and some expiring contracts for Boston point guard Rajon Rondo.
Here’s a excerpt from Gary Washburn of The Boston Globe who was one of the first to break the story:
The Pistons are quite interested in Celtics point guard Rajon Rondo, but they don’t have a package to offer that would attract president of basketball operations Danny Ainge to making a deal. The Celtics would presumably ask for emerging center Andre Drummond, who is as close to untouchable as a younger player can get.
Detroit would like to send the Celtics Brandon Knight and an expiring contract, but that wouldn’t be nearly enough. Detroit doesn’t have a first-round pick to offer because of the Ben Gordon deal that gave the Bobcats the choice of a Pistons draft pick over the next four seasons
And Washburn’s presumptions seem to correct. According to CBS Sports, the Celtics certainly want Andre Drummond in return given the lack of a first round pick in next year’s NBA Draft.
The Pistons reportedly covet Rajon Rondo. Would you give up Andre Drummond to get him? http://t.co/fPK4fDiso7

Either way Joe Dumars doesn’t seem likely to part with Drummond who offers tons of upside. You’d also have to wonder as well if Boston would try to include the god awful contract of Gerald Wallace in on the deal or if the Pistons will try to bring in a third team.
