Could Mike Babcock be on his way to Ann Arbor?

Yesterday Darren Dreger of suggested that Red Wings head coach Mike Babcock could be on his way out of Detroit and the NHL for that matter…

But Babcock wouldn’t be venturing out of the State of Michigan, in fact Dreger later suggested that the Red Wings head coach could be taking over for U-M legendary head coach Red Berenson. Of course this is purely speculation at this point considering Babcock still has two years left on his contract and says he’s happy with what he’s doing with the Wings.

Despite his teams struggles this season, earlier in the month according to an poll of 10 writers and broadcasters Babcock was named the best coach in the NHL. Babcock received five first place votes for 68 points which put him well ahead of his divisional counterpart in Barry Trotz with Nashville who had 42 points and zero first place votes.
