HE’S BAAACCKKKKK! Jose Valverde to rejoin Tigers Wednesday, will be the team’s closer

For those of you who had Jose Valverde being back with the Tigers before May, you can probably go ahead and collect your money.

According to various reports, Valverde will re-join the Tigers Wednesday as the team tries to shuffle around it’s bullpen.

News of Valverde’s return began early afternoon Tuesday as ESPN’s Craig Custance sent out a tweet saying was on his plane from Florida heading to Detroit.

Custance eventually followed that up with this:

Jon Heyman of CBS Sports then chimed in on his Twitter page with a Leyland quote which suggests Valverde will be the closer upon his arrival.

After a disastrous postseason last year Valverde essentially lost his closing job after Game 1 of the ALCS against the Yankees and was subsequently not re-signed initially during the offseason.

Ironically enough too the guy who was suppose to take over as closer, Bruce Rondon was also brought up from the minors to take the spot of Octavio Dotel who hit the 15-day DL with elbow inflammation. Leyland though appears as though he’ll take his time with Rondon easing him into situations by first starting him out in the 6th inning.

Valverde on the other hand will take Brayan Villarreal’s spot on the 25 man roster as the young reliever was optioned to Toledo after a tough start to the season for him.

UPDATE: Manager Jim Leyland confirms that Jose Valverde will be the team’s closer upon his arrival.
